Signal Messenger Settings

In the setting screen, make a note of:

• Username
• Phone Number (See Note Below)
• Photo

All of these items are things that can be unique to you. Take into account what these say about you.

*NOTE* You do not have to use the phone number of the phone signal is installed. You can use the phone number of another phone or a VOIP service (IE: MySudo or Google Voice)

Select Account

Under the account options, enable the following:

• Pin Reminders – Ensure your account is secure and on the right phone. Helps to protect it from hijacking.
• Registration Lock – The most crucial feature to ensure an outside entity does not take over your account. Requires you to enter your signal pin to transfer your account.

Click the back arrow and select Privacy.

In the privacy are a few things we must change and a few optional:

• Review Blocked Contacts if any.
• Read Receipts and Typing indicators are optional but a good way to let others know you’re working on a response or at least seen the message.
• Disappearing messages is best to set to some sort of time frame. 1 month is a good time but can be set differently for each chat. This way if you forget your messages will get erased after some time period and not endure forever.

Continue to the next block, stay in privacy.

Additional Privacy Settings:

• *Optional* Screen Lock is always a good idea to set an additional layer of security.
• *Optional* Screen Security will stop your phone from grabbing a screenshot on purpose or by accident.
• *Optional* Incognito keyboard will reduce the chance of the dictionary learning your most used words.

Proceed to advanced

One last setting:

• Turning off the first one is to remove your phone from signal servers and not have it return as a signal registered number to others.
• Always relay is a good idea to not reveal who you are calling by a direct connection but it does require your voice call to go through a 3rd party.

This completes the individual phone settings.
